Season 3, Episode 8: Foiled Again

Season 3, Episode #8 features Higgins taking center stage for the first time since Season 2, Episode 7's "Tropical Madness". Both episodes featured Higgins trying to protect women he was infatuated with, but at least with "Foiled Again", Higgins plays the fool for a woman his own age.

The episode starts off with a flashback to a British boarding school where a young Jonathan Higgins is being bullied by a classmate named Willy. Back to the present day and we find out that the same bully is in Hawaii to check on a mill that he owns which is run by his son. While in town, Willy signed up for the club's fencing tournament. He will be facing off against Higgins in the first match, much like they did back in England as tweens. Furthermore, we also find out that Willy had married Jonathan's onetime love interest, Velma, portrayed by Dana Wynter(who was last on Magnum only eleven episodes prior as the Murdering actress in "Double Jeopardy").

When the fencing match starts, Willy takes a quick 4-0 lead on Jonathan. However, Jonathan lunges forward at match point and strikes Willy causing a violent electric shock. Willy goes into cardiac arrest and dies instantly, despite Magnum's attempts at CPR.

Within a couple of days, the police arrest Higgins after finding his prints on the fencing box and learning about his hatred of Willy from Velma. Higgins manages to get out on bail and confronts Velma as he suspects that she may have had something to do with her husband's death, as Willy was a ghastly one-dimensional character, even despised by his son.

While the dumb police and ADA focus on Higgins as the guilty party, Magnum (with some help from TC) manages to find out the truth of the matter. Apparently, Willy was trying to sell the Hawaiian mill and the manager of that mill who worked with Willy's son planned the murder and set up Higgins. Thomas managed to beat a confession out of this guy as the were on top of a rig at the Mill. All's well that ends well.

Injury totals: Magnum got punched a few times during this episode and also managed to throw a few punches in his quest for the truth. He also hurt his foot and a finger helping TC's pee wee football team.
